Week 1 Pre-work

Year 10 work. Converting a warehouse into a living space for two people.

The design uses a double helix as an inspiration. The two bedrooms on the top are in separate corners and are connected by the curved walls which lead to the stairs and make up part of the bathroom. The use of glass also lets the occupants see from the inside out from the landing above the stairs and also lets them look straight down from the second floor to the first. Although the design has a rigid box exterior, the interior has become more circular which creates a smoother atmosphere for the occupants.

This building is appealing to both the engineer's and architect's eyes. It is not a conventional rectangular high rise building that most buildings have been accustomed to. Instead, it uses plenty of horizontal and vertical elements that define the building. The protruding columns on the outside give the building a notion of strength and stability, while the horizontal elements connect the building together. The architect has left voids within the building which brings transparency to the building.

This was taken within a Japanese park. It captures both man-made and nature's aesthetics. To the left, the man-made temple sits on the edge of a lake. It has plenty of open spaces which allow for people to look through and interact with its environment. The colors are similar to each other which makes it so that nothing in particular sticks out from the image. The lake is also perfectly still, which makes the reflection of the building and trees all the more beautiful.
