The client (the_kyza) liked his cars, which is why I worked with a tunnel idea since tunnels are like a pathway for cars. The light rings are inspired from racing games, which use rings to speed the cars up. So I thought I could incorporate that into the idea to give the user the feeling of racing or being in a fast sleek car. The glass could be changed in the future to a more appropriate material, but for now it gave transparency which I liked.

2nd 3D sketch of same cross-section. The bottom curved wall is made from structural glass. Bottom flooring made out of black high traction composite. Top inner walls made from plaster board painted pinkish-yellow with the exterior painted red. Some sections of the top floor are also glass for transparency.

Week 1 Independent Study

Image 1

Top right view of the section. The top is in the shape of a heart and incorporates curves all around. The stairs act as the bottom section of the heart.

Image 2

Bottom left view. From the bottom you can see the tunnel shaped glass for the car manufacturer. The rings on the bottom stairs are inspired by racing car games, where rings would boost your car.

Week 1 Pre-work

Year 10 work. Converting a warehouse into a living space for two people.

The design uses a double helix as an inspiration. The two bedrooms on the top are in separate corners and are connected by the curved walls which lead to the stairs and make up part of the bathroom. The use of glass also lets the occupants see from the inside out from the landing above the stairs and also lets them look straight down from the second floor to the first. Although the design has a rigid box exterior, the interior has become more circular which creates a smoother atmosphere for the occupants.

Photograph of a building in Japan

This building is appealing to both the engineer's and architect's eyes. It is not a conventional rectangular high rise building that most buildings have been accustomed to. Instead, it uses plenty of horizontal and vertical elements that define the building. The protruding columns on the outside give the building a notion of strength and stability, while the horizontal elements connect the building together. The architect has left voids within the building which brings transparency to the building.

Photograph of a Japanese garden

This was taken within a Japanese park. It captures both man-made and nature's aesthetics. To the left, the man-made temple sits on the edge of a lake. It has plenty of open spaces which allow for people to look through and interact with its environment. The colors are similar to each other which makes it so that nothing in particular sticks out from the image. The lake is also perfectly still, which makes the reflection of the building and trees all the more beautiful.
